Paranaque Community
Built in a record only eight months, and now considered one of the most modern public hospitals in Metro Manila by the Department of Health (DOH), the 120-bed Ospital ng Paranaque is now ready to serve and give better services to the people.
Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez and DOH Secretary Enrique Ona led the formal opening and blessing of the hospital last Sunday.
Olivarez said the city government spent P200 million to build the six-story hospital after his second month in office.
During the opening of the hospital, Olivarez said the hospital “is God’s gift (which we) must keep in good shape so that the people will fully benefit from the only public hospital in the city.”
He added: “What we inaugurate is only a building; what is more important is the kind of service that we promise to provide through the dedicated men and women of the Ospital ng Parañaque led by medical director Dr. Ephraim Neal Orteza.”
Ona praised the city officials for building the hospital which he likened to a private hospital when he saw the quality of the construction and its facilities.
Ona also promised to provide at least P20 million from the health department’s budget next year to further augment the new hospital’s facilities and equipment, plus another P33 million for the city’s various health centers.
The mayor said the new hospital is an addition to the existing 39-bed hospital which used to be called the Parañaque Community Hospital along Quirino Avenue, right across the Saint Andrew’s Cathedral in Barangay La Huerta.
Olivarez said the old hospital severely lacked medicines, supplies, and equipment.
He said it was also considered as the only public hospital in the city and it was always congested.
The mayor said that changing the name of the hospital from Paranaque Community to Ospital ng Paranaque was made through an ordinance passed and approved by the City Council last March 21.
